Hello Teddy! the beginning of an adventure…… to be continued
The Butterfly Life circle
All butterflies have a complete metamorphosis, growing through four stages: egg, larva, pupa or chrysalis and adult butterfly.
The life of a butterfly starts with small round eggs laid on a leaf that the butterfly knows her caterpillar will need to eat, the egg stage is 5-10 days, the caterpillar needs lots of food so the newly hatched caterpillar nibbles the leaf he was hatched on, they eat and eat and grow and grow until their skin sheds, this happens a few times over 2-5 weeks, many caterpillars struggle to survive over this tough stage, the caterpillar spins a string of silk around his body and attaches to a branch this third stage called pupa or also known as chrysalis, this stage lasts for 1 -2 weeks, though some can stay like this over winter like the Monarch butterfly, following these 3 stages is the amazing transformation caleed ‘metamorphosis’
The short, tubby caterpillar emerges as a beautiful butterfly with limbs, blood supply, heart, brain, and wings. The aim of the butterfly is to reproduce and the female lays eggs. The wonderful life cycle of the butterfly who will live for about 2 weeks, though some can live for several months.
Blue butterfly
Flutter by, butterfly;
Try to catch the light most high,
Let the sun shine upon your wing;
Smiling, hugs and angel sing,
Lightening flashes, change of mind;
to steadfast, caring, peace and kind,
She rests upon the nettle;
Then plants a gentle kiss;
The nettle forms a buttercup,
And turns the song to bliss.
